US Housing Starts – February 18, 2015
Housing starts in the United States declined 2 per cent in January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of 1.07 million units. New home construction in the US has been above 1 million units SAAR for several months and the US housing market is gradually returning to a more healthy state as starts catch up with population growth and a thriving economy inspires buyers back into the market.
A healthy US housing market is a key driver of BC export growth and we expect the resurgent US economy to be a vital factor in accelerating economic growth in BC this year.
