Surrey’s population, at over 460,000, is the 12th largest city in Canada and the second largest in British Columbia. Our growth rate averages nearly 10,000 new residents annually and with 1/3rd of our population under age 19, it is clear that Surrey is a city for families.

At 317 sq. km., Surrey is the largest city in Metro Vancouver. Among its many competitive advantages, Surrey has approximately 46% of Metro Vancouver’s total vacant industrial land supply and presents many opportunities for greenfield industrial/commercial development. With excellent transportation connections to the U.S. border and major highways, Surrey is strategically located at the trading crossroads of Greater Vancouver, bordering the United States and is a gateway to the Pacific Rim.

Surrey is a city of vibrant communities – City Centre/Whalley, Fleetwood, Guildford, Cloverdale, Newton and South Surrey. Each of these planned communities’ offers choice in housing and lifestyle, close proximity to public transit, shopping, schools and recreation and sport activities. The city has 6,400 acres of designated parkland and protected open spaces supplemented by close to 1,400 acres of provincial park, wildlife area and regional parks. The city offers ocean shoreline and access to the Fraser River, with mountain views all around.

The development of Surrey City Centre over the next five years will transform the downtown core and create BC’s next great metropolitan centre. It will become the commercial, residential, entertainment, education, civic and cultural heart of Surrey. Service by Skytrain, it is only a short commute from downtown Vancouver to Surrey.

The Surrey School Board is the largest in the province and both Simon Fraser University and Kwantlen Polytechnic University are located in Surrey, providing higher education opportunities to our young and growing population.
