Home ownership rates in the U.S. and Canada

The U.S. home ownership rate is 63.4%, the lowest level since 1967, according to data from the Census Bureau. Home ownership rates are highest in the Midwest (68.4%) and lowest in the West (58.5%).

In Canada, the home ownership rate is 69% according to Statistics Canada data.

Home ownership rates are highest in Newfoundland and Labrador (77.5%) and lowest in Quebec (61.2%) and Nunavut (21.0%). In BC, the home ownership rate is 70%. In Metro Vancouver it’s 65.5%.
